Bauer is a professional performer, educator and composer, and, in his spare time, an amateur comedian and video editor. Born into a musical family, Bauer started taking piano lessons at age five, and by age twelve he was performing solo and with rock bands. Bauer attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and studied under the great Mark Flugge. In 2015, Bauer formed the funk band Safety Squad, which has released two albums of his original music as of 2019 and garnered thousands of streams worldwide.
Bauer has been a prolific performer and educator, leading ensembles, selling out shows in venues around Ohio, as well as regularly subbing for Grammy-nominated Bobby Floyd. Bauer has performed headlining slots at the Jazz and Ribs Festival, Com fest, as well as highly successful shows in Columbus at Dick’s Den, Brother’s Drake, Woodlands Tavern. Bauer has performed all over Ohio, as well as in Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York City, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Burlington, and more.
In the summer of 2018, Bauer began to record comedy music videos. His Youtube Channel has over ninety videos on it and is gaining new subscribers every day. Bauer’s live performances focus on improvised instrumental music, but his comedic charm comes through even on more serious gigs.
Bauer moved to Chicago, Illinois in the summer of 2019 and is eager to continue his performance as a jazz musician, leader for safety squad, as well as nurturing his budding comedy interest.
Zakk Jones is a Columbus, OH based guitarist, bandleader, and educator with a B.M. in Jazz Studies from Capital University. In his 8+ years on the Columbus scene he has had the opportunity to play at major venues and festivals both locally and all over the country. He regularly tours and performs with Doc Robinson, Safety Squad, Popgun, Birdshack, Insane Jazz Posse, Tony Monaco, the Zakk Jones Trio and many more artists/bands. He has studied with Stan Smith, Julian Lage, Ben Monder, Corey Christiansen, Jonathan Kreisberg, and Gilad Hekselman among others. Besides performing, Zakk Jones is an adjunct faculty member at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University where he heads the guitar studio.
Max Marsillo is a musician, educator and composer performing with artists, teaching in a variety of settings, and composing in several styles of music.
Max Marsillo attended Capital University and earned a B.M. in music education. During his time there, he received sponsorship from Vic Firth, and received his first publication.
Max currently leads his own group, performing compositions and arrangements of his own and has worked with a number of artists as a sideman including Phil Dirt and the Dozers, Angela Perley & the Howlin' Moons, Whirlybirds, Safety Squad, Erin Mcdougald, Bobby Sanabria, and many others.
Alex is an active member of the Columbus jazz community as a performer, teacher, and composer, and bandleader. He frequently performs on various Columbus stages with a variety of jazz, rock, and latin bands, and is featured on a number of recordings both as a sideman, and as a featured soloist. He is a founding member of the group, “Liver Quiver”as well as, “Small Songs.” He is also a scholar of the music of Ornette Coleman, whose music is the inspiration for his band “Free Jazz Hit Parade.”
Stephan began playing piano at the age of 6 and, under the instruction of his father, the drums at age 9. Always involved in music programs throughout school, Stephan started playing in bands (including fill-ins for some of his father's projects) while in high school.
He went on to attend Capital University's Conservatory of Music in Columbus, Ohio. Studying under professor Bob Breithaupt, Stephan was involved in an extremely immersive and versatile percussion program, performing both in concert bands and contemporary ensembles such as Capital's Jazz Percussion, World Music, and Fusion bands. He graduated in 2014 with a degree in Music Industry.
Currently Stephan lives in Nashville, TN and is the touring drummer for country/rock artist and past Voice contestant Jared Blake. He also actively performs with Jared Weeks (previously of Saving Abel) and Nashville country artists Nick Alligood and Big Vinny (of Trailer Choir). Additionally, Stephan is an active member of both the Blue Water Kings Band and Jazz-Fusion group Safety Squad.
Stephan is also a private drum set instructor and has been teaching students of all ages for the past four years, utilizing both in-person and online lessons.
His burning passion for everything music manifests itself through an electric and emotional performance style that leaves everything on the stage.
